YATELEY CHORAL SOCIETY CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF MUSIC-MAKING
On 11 July 2009, 60 members and special guests of Yateley Choral Society
met for dinner in St Swithun's Parish Centre to celebrate 30 years of
singing in the area.
On arrival they were serenaded by mother and daughter duo Janette (flute)
and Tamsin (harp) Jolly.
The delicious meal had been prepared by professional caterers,
with an excellent choice of dishes on offer, and the buzz of friendly conversation increased rapidly in volume as
guests relaxed and enjoyed the evening.
But there were surprises yet to come: a group that specializes
in entertainment contains nuggets of talent that will shine through, even
with little prior organization!
Add to the list of entertainers current
and former Musical Directors used to performing professionally and the
evening enters a new dimension.
Treats-some in the form of impromptu performances-were provided by Andrew
Watts (lovers of contemporary opera will recognise the name), Rufus Frowde,
Janette and David Jolly, Katrina and Paul Sudell;
but the highest accolade
must go to Yateley Choral Society's founder, Dave Howells, for his poem
chronicling the history of the choir. Witty, amusing and expertly delivered,
it was deceptively simple, the product of a rare talent. Incredibly, it
was composed during the meal!
